About the Role
The Brooklyn Public Library Adult Learning Program is seeking a full-time Case Manager to support WIOA HSE participants within the Literacy Zone Welcome Center. This role will help participants access free programs and resources to overcome barriers to completing their educational goals, working collaboratively with internal teams and community partners. This is a grant-funded position through June 30, 2027, with potential for renewal.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive educational/vocational assessments to develop service plans for approximately 100 clients annually.
- Provide intensive one-on-one and/or small group counseling and advising on career, academic, and social service needs.
- Link participants with resources to help alleviate poverty.
- Plan and coordinate community events aligned with Literacy Zone targets.
- Identify post-secondary transition programs and assist foreign-born participants with workforce integration.
- Assist participants in improving English skills, earning high school diplomas, and succeeding in post-secondary education, apprenticeships, or training.
- Support program outreach, recruitment, information sessions, assessments, orientations, and goal setting.
- Communicate and collaborate with staff to identify participant barriers.
- Refer participants to community partners for wrap-around services like health and financial literacy.
- Research and assist participants in acquiring supportive services such as computer literacy, transportation, public assistance, and childcare.
- Facilitate and/or coordinate various workshops/information sessions.
- Attend community partner meetings and bi-monthly case management team meetings.
- Maintain case notes in the ASISTS database, documenting client goals and outcomes.
- Monitor participant progress and conduct frequent follow-ups.
- Perform other tasks necessary to achieve service and programmatic goals.
Requirements
- Relevant experience in adult education (HSE).
- Strong awareness of barriers facing adult learners integrating into workforce, technology, and academic environments.
- Relevant experience in counseling individuals and/or facilitating informational sessions.
- Good knowledge of available educational, training, and employment resources.
- Good knowledge of labor market trends and requirements.
- Possess initiative, resourcefulness, tact, courtesy, good judgment, and problem-solving ability.
- Able to travel to various program sites throughout the week.
- Able to work alternate Saturdays, evenings, and day shifts.
- Willing to travel and work from various library branches within the Literacy Zone target area.
- Complete 14 hours of professional development per year.
Skills
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Google Drive, Outlook, and Social Media.
