About the Role
San Francisco Public Works is seeking an Engineering Associate I to assist the Streets & Highways Section with preparing engineering drawings for street resurfacing and streetscape improvement projects. This role involves utilizing CAD software, conducting field investigations, and ensuring compliance with drafting standards.
Responsibilities
- Preparing engineering drawings and graphic material for street resurfacing, streetscape, and accessibility improvements using manual drafting, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and 3D rendering software.
- Checking drawings for accuracy and compliance with drafting standards.
- Identifying, developing, and enforcing CAD, Civil 3D, and/or BIM drafting procedures and standards.
- Conducting field investigations and gathering, preparing, and maintaining data, records, and reports for design and construction drawings.
- Incorporating topographical survey data into AutoCAD and Civil 3D to prepare drawings, create surfaces, and support construction drawing preparation.
- Reviewing and integrating submittals from utility agencies or other City departments into contract drawings.
- Reviewing and checking engineering drawings from other staff for accuracy, sufficiency, and conformance to specifications.
- Assisting in the preparation of cost and quantity estimates for engineering projects.
- Processing contractor construction shop submittals, including logging, filing, indexing, and maintaining records.
- Performing trigonometric and other mathematical computations related to drafting.
- Operating and performing minor maintenance on drafting equipment.
- Responding to inquiries from the public, contractors, and other agencies.
- Preparing memos, engineering reports, field reports, and other correspondence.
- Learning and adapting to new drafting systems and standards.
- Driving a city vehicle to and from work sites, as required.
Requirements
- Four (4) years of verified civil (including structural/or transportation) technical engineering drafting experience using CAD or BIM systems.
- At least two (2) years of experience in a position with duties comparable to Class 5362 Engineering Assistant.
- Possession of a valid California driver license.
