About the Role

AECOM's Water Business Line is seeking a Senior Civil Design and Program Manager to lead its Civil Design Practice in Buffalo, NY, Rochester, NY, or Syracuse, NY, supporting projects across the Northeast US. This hybrid role requires extensive experience in municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater design, analysis, inspection, and management, particularly in urban settings, with a proven ability to lead engineering teams and deliver successful projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex design projects from planning through construction phases, including alternative delivery projects.
  • Lead multi-discipline project design teams locally and remotely.
  • Interface with clients and regulatory agencies, and present to existing or potential clients.
  • Experience in civil and stormwater design.
  • Design of pipe conveyance and coordination/understanding of modeling of collection systems.
  • Develop and review design and construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Oversee and prepare engineering reports and documentation.
  • Prepare engineering services proposals, fee estimates, and schedules.
  • Conduct field inspections and assessments for compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
  • Stay current on industry trends and advancements.
  • Assess market trends and lead strategy for proposal development.
  • Provide construction administration support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Civil or Environmental engineering, or other related field.
  • 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer in the state of NY, or ability to obtain PE licensure within 1 year of employment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing engineering deliverables such as reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Proven experience on stormwater, water, wastewater, or flood protection/resilience projects.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
  • Must pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records Review.
  • 15 years of extensive project experience in municipal water, wastewater and/or stormwater design, analysis, installation, inspection, and management in dense urban settings.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to be client-facing.
  • Strong knowledge of water/wastewater/stormwater design codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Pipeline condition assessment and rehabilitation experience.
  • Experience with combined sewer overflow communities with planning, design and construction of combined sewer overflow infrastructure.
  • Coordination of projects with civil design and modeling teams.
  • Strong communication skills in coordinating with clients, sub-consultants, regulatory agencies, and the public.
  • Strong commitment to ensuring safe project execution.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods.
  • Self-starter and ability to take initiative.
  • Experienced technical writer.
