About the Role

This program trains individuals to become Maintenance Technicians at American Packaging Corporation through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction. Maintenance Technicians are responsible for the electrical and mechanical systems in the facility, including troubleshooting and routine maintenance. Participants will learn to repair equipment affecting productivity and contribute to process improvements.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical systems.
Perform routine maintenance activities.
Troubleshoot and repair equipment problems affecting productivity.
Provide input in production problem-solving and process improvements.
Learn size of wire conduit and bending of conduit.
Learn use of tools and how to determine load safety size.
Replace incandescent lamps and hot cathode fluorescent tubes and starters.
Repair fluorescent fixtures, including replacing ballast, socket, and wiring.
Repair LED fixtures, including replacing drivers and troubleshooting.
Troubleshoot AC wiring, locate and repair contactor problems, replace contacts and contactor.
Locate and replace blown fuses.
Check and repair limit switches and push buttons.
Read wiring diagrams for special control circuits.
Understand operation of special control circuits, time delay switches, and electrical braking.
Locate and repair direct current motor troubles in fields, armatures, bearings, brush holders, and commutators.
Gain knowledge of variable speed DC drives.
Repair and maintain DC contactors and field control.
Learn proper handling and installation of power feeding, wiring, fuse panels, and breakers.
Estimate load requirements and understand code requirements for general wiring.
Install general wiring.
Learn proper use and care of voltmeter, ammeter, watt meter, oscilloscope, and megger.
Read diagrams and schematics for programmable logic controllers.
Maintain and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers.
Learn care, use, and safety of hand tools, power tools, machines, power equipment, ladders, scaffolding, and hoists.
Perform assembly and disassembly of machinery.
Work with bearings, power transmission, construction, rigging, and lubrication.
Operate lathes, milling machines, grinding machines, drill press, and power saw.
Perform pipefitting, including layout, installation, repair, replacement of pumps, compressors, valves, and controls.
Perform welding, including use of protective clothing and equipment, burning and cutting, controls and gauges, electric arc welding, and understanding properties of metals.

Requirements

Must be an active, regular Full-time employee of American Packaging Corporation.
Part-time or temporary employees of APC are not eligible to participate in this program.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or instructions.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from others.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear.
May require manual lifting not to exceed 50 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required include color vision.
Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
