About the Role
The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill an Assistant Research Scientist position in our neuroscience laboratory. This role utilizes rodent preparations to model mechanisms and treatment targets in mental illness, focusing on circuit mechanisms of normal brain functions and how experiences change them.
Responsibilities
- Handling of research rodents
- Stereotaxic surgery and monitoring during recovery
- Behavioral testing
- In vivo fiber photometry and electrophysiology
- Anatomic circuit tracing
- Neurohistology
- Microscopy
- Data analysis
- Utilizing molecular genetic manipulations to probe neural cellular and circuit function and behavior
- Working on a flexible schedule, including some weekends and evenings
Requirements
- Experience with procedures and analysis of data utilizing genetically encoded biosensors and in vivo physiology is critical
- Experience with vivo viral-mediated gene transfer and opto and chemo genetics is preferred
- Familiarity with programming in Matlab and Python are important
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to keep detailed records
- Ability to aid others in the laboratory with data
