About the Role
The Designer role is responsible for all design work for assigned private label accounts, developing collections that align with each client brand identity and market needs. This role requires expertise in textiles, color and pattern, along with strong collaboration with product development, merchandising, sales and sourcing teams to bring commercially successful designs to market.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Product Development and Design Director to execute design direction.
- Attend kick off meetings with PD and Sales partners to understand overall vision and scope of each project.
- Develop new design concepts with our specific retailers in mind.
- Create concept boards for new design concepts.
- Research Design trends and interpret into saleable product for our accounts.
- Liaise with customers, department heads, product development and sales staff to plan and develop designs.
- Make customer presentations.
- Work in collaboration with PD and/or Sales departments to accurately interpret, represent and execute design concepts and products.
- Present trends and concepts for each seasonal market and collaborate with merchandising and sales to ensure designs meet retailer needs.
- Put together tech packs and create and print color standards.
- Ensure proper adaptation of design into production process.
- Communicate with overseas teams regarding ongoing design projects.
- Prepare product presentation materials.
- Assess and approve completed samples and production standards from overseas.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new design and production techniques and textile technology.
- Work proactively according to the development calendar to stay on timelines and work through product approvals.
- Assist with Showroom design and set up.
- Conduct site visits, comp shopping, and attend creative venues for design inspiration.
- Source fabrics and other materials at trade fairs, markets and antique shops.
- Attend trade shows domestically and internationally to understand seasonal trend direction and implement them into design work.
- Keep up-to-date and spot home fashion trends in fabric design by reading forecasts in trade magazines and using internet resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3-5 years textile design experience.
- Experience in soft home goods required.
- Expertise in all soft home categories preferred.
- Expertise in textiles, color and pattern required.
- Strong collaboration with product development, merchandising, sales and sourcing teams required.
Skills
- Highly skilled using Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Experience Level
- 3-5 years
Education Level
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from college or university preferred.
