About the Role

The Office of the Deputy Executive Director (DEDO) provides strategic and coordination support to the Deputy Executive Director for Normative Support, UN Coordination and Programme Results. This internship offers direct exposure to inter agency coordination, multilateral process support and executive office operations at UN Women, including hands-on engagement with the Deputy Executive Director's Office on live coordination priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Global Youth focal point with the review and finalization of the Young Women and Girls Strategy, including compiling comments from divisions and country and regional offices, and draft communications plan.
  • Maintain a consolidated tracker of partner engagement related to correspondence on the Strategy as follow up from DED’s bilateral engagements.
  • Support internal coordination of UN Women's Middle East response, including follow-up with the relevant sub working groups.
  • Maintain a coordination tracker of action points, decisions and pending items across the sub working groups.
  • Assist in compiling situation updates and briefing notes for the Deputy Executive Director's Office.
  • Support follow up to Strategic Leadership Group meetings, including tracking commitments, action points and outstanding correspondence.
  • Assist with the finalization and circulation of the Terms of Reference and related documentation.
  • Support preparation for subsequent Strategic Leadership Group engagements, including RSVP tracking, scheduling and briefing materials.
  • Maintain a coordination tracker between the Deputy Executive Director's Office and UN Women's Liaison Office to the African Union, covering scheduled engagements, joint initiatives and pending action points.
  • Track key African Union processes, summits and decision points relevant to UN Women's Africa strategy and gender equality priorities ahead of the AU Summit.

Requirements

  • University studies in international relations, political science, gender studies, public policy, or other relevant subjects is required.
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a two year period of graduation.
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
  • Provide proof of enrollment in a valid health insurance plan at the duty station of the internship.
  • Provide proof of school enrollment or degree.
  • Provide a scanned copy of their passport/national ID.
  • Provide a copy of a valid visa (as applicable).
  • Complete all sections of the application form, including education and employment history.

Education Level

  • Graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)

Salary/Compensations

  • Stipend provided to partially subsidize basic living costs for interns not receiving financial support from other sources.
