About the Role
The Heavy Paving Equipment/Diesel Mechanic will work closely with the Milling, Asphalt, and Maintenance Teams to ensure company-owned tools, equipment and vehicles are always maintained in good working order, consistent with direction provided by his/her direct manager. The ideal candidate has experience with maintenance of paving equipment, particularly asphalt milling machines, and a thorough understanding of asphalt work.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate condition of defective tools, equipment and fleet vehicles.
- Collaborate with the Equipment Manager in trouble shooting defective equipment and participate in discussions to arrive at solutions.
- Prepare an estimate of cost to complete repair for extensive or unusual repairs and seek authorization before commencing.
- Perform routine maintenance on company-owned tools, equipment and vehicles following a standard maintenance schedule.
- Ensure maintenance is performed on schedule, to standard, and that accurate logs are kept up to date.
- Place approved orders for replacement parts with vendors.
- Ensure the Equipment Manager is informed of all deliveries and associated paperwork is provided in a timely manner.
- Ensure the shop area is neat, clean and orderly at the end of each day.
- Store all tools in their proper place and ensure shop surfaces are free of trash and debris.
- Support company efforts to achieve client loyalty.
Requirements
- Trade school or 3-5+ years of qualified experience
- Work experience with diagnostics, maintenance, and operation of asphalt milling machines
- Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset
- Must be positive, friendly, and professional
- Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
- Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.
- Ability to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
- Must demonstrate professional communication in reaching out to employees and managers for needed documents
- Willingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as they arise
- Exhibit excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize various tasks and complete them in a timely manner
- Able to perform duties independently.
- Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Proper PPE is required at all times.
