About the Role
Phlebotomy Technicians are essential members of the medical laboratory team, responsible for the accurate and efficient collection of blood samples. This role requires strong communication skills and empathy to provide a calm, reassuring experience for patients while obtaining high-quality specimens.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood collection procedures following venipuncture protocols
- Maintain appropriate log sheets
- Verify order requests and identify patient information prior to specimen collection
- Label all specimens and deliver them to the appropriate processing area
- Perform specimen processing and send-out tasks including accessioning, centrifugation, and packaging
- Pick up and deliver blood, other sample types, and lab supplies
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Prior phlebotomy experience
- Technical proficiency with standard procedures, techniques, and common practices
- Ability to work under minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Frequent and long durations of standing and walking
- Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors
- Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements
- Compliance with influenza prevention program
- Successful completion of drug screening
