About the Role

This 8-month Co-Op opportunity provides group benefits consulting support, including design and financial management for clients and prospects. Responsibilities include performing actuarial valuations, accounting disclosures, reserve calculations, simulation modeling, and other actuarial projects. The role involves working closely with internal teams, interfacing with vendors, and supporting client deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and management of group medical, dental, life, disability, and special risk benefits for clients.
  • Prepare actuarial valuations of post-retirement and post-employment benefits plans according to applicable accounting standards.
  • Review benefits documentation for accuracy.
  • Conduct annual renewal analysis and negotiations with carriers.
  • Prepare client reports and presentations.
  • Analyze experience reporting, budget projections, and review plan financial performance.
  • Review financial statements for accuracy and adherence to underwriting agreements.
  • Conduct plan design benchmarking studies.
  • Assist in building plan design tools and financial databases.
  • Conduct marketings, including preparing and submitting specifications, analyzing responses, and preparing marketing reports.
  • Gather data and determine cost impact for plan design changes.
  • Monitor carrier/provider services standards.
  • Support the consulting team in preparing documents for client presentations and meetings.

Requirements

  • University student in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related discipline.
  • Advanced competency with Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize competing demands to meet client and company needs.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Actively writing Society of Actuaries (SOA) or Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) exams.
