About the Role
The Engineering Lead – Molds is responsible for the oversight of design, build, development, and cost control of tooling related to the injection molding process. This position will interact with customers, the injection molding department, internal mold shop, external suppliers, and sub-contractors.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead for tooling within a cross-functional engineering team.
- Oversee, track, and coordinate tool design and build, including program kickoff, engineering changes, repair jobs, and customer transfer molds.
- Develop tool design concepts in collaboration with tool designers and other team members.
- Lead cross-functional Design Reviews to ensure customer and production requirements are met.
- Coordinate and establish accurate timelines and progress reports for tool builds and sampling activities.
- Track and monitor the engineering portion of mold tooling projects against quoted assumptions.
- Act as a liaison between internal departments such as Quality, Molding, Process Engineering, Tool Room, Shipping, and Scheduling.
- Coordinate mold samples for new tool qualification and first article inspection.
- Ensure mold qualification requirements and customer mold approval needs are met.
- Communicate with customers, serving as the key interface between ADDMAN and the customer.
- Participate in customer meetings pertaining to tooling programs as requested.
- Coordinate corrective action and continuous improvement activities.
- Provide engineering support for day-to-day production and operations.
- Review tool designs using CAD software; SolidWorks is preferable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 3D CAD Skills; SolidWorks is preferable.
- GD&T knowledge and ability to analyze and understand customer part prints.
- Sufficient analytical skills to assess problems and develop solutions.
- Ability to use statistical methods to analyze process capability.
- Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and time management skills; ability to work without supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret extensive technical instructions and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
