About the Role

Explores, recommends, and coordinates insurance and potential financial assistance options for kidney dialysis patients, educating them to elect the best insurance choices. Supports FMCNA’s mission and adheres to the Compliance Program.

Responsibilities

  • Educates patients on alternative insurance options (Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Supplement, State Renal programs, COBRA).
  • Ensures patients complete the application process for insurance.
  • Obtains premium statements and signatures from patients.
  • Discusses options with patients experiencing changes in employment status or other life situations.
  • Completes and follows up on paperwork for disputed claims.
  • Collects documents for indigent waivers.
  • Discusses insurance options when contracts are terminated.
  • Determines Medicare eligibility by meeting with patients and contacting Social Security offices.
  • Assists eligible patients with the Medicare application process.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients and local agents for Medicare terminations and re-instatements.
  • Educates patients on insurance options during annual open enrollment and Medicare reinstatement periods.
  • Tracks the 30-month coordination period for patients on employer Group Health Plans.
  • Monitors and verifies Medicaid status and determines spend down amounts monthly.
  • Evaluates personal financial information to determine eligibility for indigent programs.
  • Completes initial Indigent waiver applications.
  • Monitors and updates patient insurance information for accuracy.
  • Addresses insurance anomalies and discrepancies.
  • Ensures patients understand their responsibilities regarding direct payments from insurance companies.
  • Prepares, analyzes, and reviews monthly reports on caseload progress.
  • Analyzes patient reports from billing systems to audit insurance information accuracy.
  • Provides QA team members with monthly insurance status details and action plans.
  • Completes monthly audit exams to stay current on internal policies.
  • May present insurance and financial assistance options to patients.
  • Complies with the Code of Business Conduct, company policies, and applicable laws.
  • Assists with various projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of related experience, healthcare industry preferred.
  • Experience with Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid systems is a plus.
  • Past patient interaction experience is a plus.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Strong customer service philosophy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proficient with PCs and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Extensive local travel to clinics in a specified geographic area required.
