About the Role

Working closely with stakeholders throughout the business, you will provide expert guidance on health and safety obligations, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The position also involves overseeing construction-related activities across the region, including supporting significant redesign and redevelopment projects at our US headquarters, ensuring health and safety considerations are integrated throughout every stage of delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Barclays group-wide health & safety policy, standards, and procedures.
  • Design and advise on appropriate health and safety training.
  • Provide competent health & safety advice, advising on health, safety, and fire safety legislative compliance that impacts the bank’s services.
  • Manage and monitor delivery of site-specific risk assessments (including fire and asbestos surveys) in line with Barclays standards and legal requirements.
  • Investigate work related accidents and incidents, liaising with regulators as appropriate.
  • Driver implementation of appropriate mitigation measures to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement emergency management plans for fire and first aid, including fire evacuation plans and fire emergency evacuation training.
  • Report on health & safety performance to stakeholders, including through the bank’s Group Health & Safety Forum.
  • Oversee third party supplier delivery and execution of health, safety and fire safety compliance activities on behalf of Barclays.
  • Advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function.
  • Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes.
  • Lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments.
  • Identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments.
  • Identify new directions for assignments and/ or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to influence and build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • A solid understanding of applicable health and safety legislation, with the ability to interpret and apply requirements in a practical and proportionate manner.
  • Experience working within a corporate environment, ideally in real estate, workplace services, or facilities management.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing contractors and ensuring safe practices throughout construction-related activities.
  • Sound knowledge of fire safety principles, including experience conducting and reviewing fire risk assessments.
  • Experience operating within a large, complex organization, effectively navigating multiple stakeholders, functions, and regulatory requirements.
