About the Role
The Senior Director of Security manages daily security operations, supervises staff, and executes high-level goals for the Midtown portfolio. This role is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive security strategies that protect employees, tenants, residents, visitors, and company assets while ensuring a safe, secure, and resilient environment across the portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Leads and oversees all security operations across the Midtown portfolio, including the management of security employees and third-party vendors.
- Develops, implements, and maintains security policies, standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Directs physical security programs, including access control systems, video surveillance, workplace violence prevention, and asset protection.
- Establishes and maintains the midtown department’s budget, developing security goals, performance metrics, and strategic initiatives.
- Proactively identifies, assesses, and monitors potential security, operational, and reputational risks.
- Leads emergency preparedness and crisis response efforts in partnership with operations leadership.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with local, state and federal law enforcement and other related government agencies.
- Oversees incident response investigations, security breach reviews, and related disciplinary or legal matters.
- Conducts and supervises internal investigations and ensures timely, thorough documentation and reporting.
- Supports workforce planning, staffing strategies and scheduling.
- Provides regular operational updates, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Represents the Organization at public events, meetings, and with external partners.
- Resolves complex issues and aligns other departments towards shared goals.
- Serves as a resource, advocate, and catalyst for sustainability at The Durst Organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 15 - 18 years of progressive experience in law enforcement, corporate security, or related security operations.
- At least seven years in a senior leadership role.
- Extensive knowledge of physical security strategies, policies and standards.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in access control systems, video surveillance, asset protection, business continuity, disaster recovery planning, and threat/risk assessment.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to solve problems and make sound decisions in complex and high-pressure situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate security concepts and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven experience managing security budgets, staffing models, scheduling, and operational planning.
- Strong leadership, team development, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality and sound judgment.
