About the Role
Support the credit underwriting and portfolio management functions for the underwriting teams. Responsible for spreading and analyzing a variety of financial statements; learn to analyze financial data, assess creditworthiness, and conduct quarterly/annual reviews to ensure compliance with financial covenant requirements and accuracy of loan rating. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to develop in a commercial banking environment.
Responsibilities
- Spread and analyze business and guarantor financial statements, rent rolls, income & expense statements, accounts receivable and accounts payable agings, and basic projection modeling to determine financial health and repayment capacity.
- Assist underwriters and private bankers in preparing detailed credit memos for new and existing commercial loan requests.
- Evaluate borrower creditworthiness, industry risks, collateral adequacy, and loan structures in accordance with bank policies.
- Conduct ongoing monitoring of assigned loan portfolios, including annual reviews, covenant monitoring, risk rating, and identifying potential credit issues.
- Prepare applicable charts/ratios in the preparation of written credit analysis used in both reviews and approval memos.
- Attend meetings with underwriters and bankers to discuss credit loan proposals.
- Ensure the receipt of financial reporting, covenant compliance, and borrowing base information is properly recorded in the bank’s loan origination system, maintain accurate credit files, and support internal and external audit reviews.
- Work closely with commercial private bankers, loan operations, and credit administration.
Requirements
- Ability to analyze balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow information.
- Ability to analyze personal financial information as presented by Credit Bureaus.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to deal effectively, tactfully, and courteously with customers, visitors, and the personnel of other departments.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
