About the Role

Motor Vehicle Operators at Stony Brook Medicine regularly drive various vehicles to transport people, materials, and equipment. This role involves operating vehicles both on and off state property, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring the safe delivery of cargo.

Responsibilities

• Drive a variety of motor vehicles to transport people, material, and equipment.
• Plow snow from roadways and parking lots.
• Map routes, itineraries, and points of call.
• Move or carry cargo onto, into, off of, or out of the vehicle operated.
• Move or carry cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point.
• Post manifests, inventories, and other records of goods and people transported.
• Start, stop, steer, and control vehicles on institutional grounds and over-the-road.
• Monitor gauges and check fluid levels and tire pressures.
• Perform routine maintenance on vehicles, including changing oil, spark plugs, tires, washing vehicles, pumping gas, adding fluids, and replacing lamp bulbs.
• Operate and maintain motorized equipment in support of maintenance, grounds, or building trades crews.
• Document the safe delivery of goods and people transported by posting manifests and other records.

Requirements

• Possess a New York State driver license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
• May be required to possess a CDL Class A, B, C or General Class D license.
• Knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to safe and legal vehicle operation.
• Knowledge of the nature of cargo carried and any special handling required.
• Knowledge of simple automotive repair and maintenance procedures.
• Ability to operate motor vehicles as required.
• Ability to lift and carry crates, cartons, boxes, and other cargo onto and off of transport vehicles.
• Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance.
• Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
• Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen.
• Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
