About the Role
Performs routine, repetitive tasks under close supervision in patient care areas, dietary service offices, main kitchens, or tray rooms, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of work areas.
Responsibilities
- Receives instructions for portioning, service of foods, and supplies.
- Functions as a dietary aide in the main kitchen or tray room.
- Portions and serves food according to supervisor specifications.
- Maintains cleanliness and neatness of the work area, equipment, and storage areas.
- Manages storage of foods and leftovers to avoid waste.
- Follows sanitation codes and regulations for food handling and equipment.
- Distributes dietary carts (meals) to assigned nursing units.
- Records telephone messages as required.
- Promotes the mission and philosophy of the Hospital.
- Supports Hospital's Performance Improvement endeavors.
- Attends all mandatory educational programs.
- Interacts with patients in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to their needs.
- Maintains communication with patients to provide a secure and pleasant experience.
Requirements
- Willingness to work for the best interest of the institution.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Works under supervision, but some initiative is needed to maintain work flow and keep area clean and sanitary.
- Willingness to work with the realization that errors may have serious consequences to patients.
- Courtesy and tact in handling telephone calls and inter-departmental relations.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Skills
- Ability to read, write, speak, and follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
