About the Role

Under general supervision, performs duties to ensure the safety and security of Arnot Health patients, visitors, students, and employees. Applies crime risk and safety hazard prevention techniques, enforces laws and policies, and exercises the power of arrest in accordance with NYS CPL Section 140 as a Public Safety Department employee.

Responsibilities

• Conducts regular patrols of interior and exterior locations, identifying and correcting safety, fire, or security hazards.
• Collects and compiles information for timely, accurate, and detailed reports, conducting follow-up investigations as needed.
• Maintains accurate digital logbook entries.
• Maintains thorough working knowledge of and responsibly uses all Public Safety departmental equipment, promptly reporting any issues.
• Maintains thorough working knowledge of departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Policy Manual, Arnot Health Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, and Fire Manual.
• Responds to all calls for assistance, including STAT, Fire Alert, Code Teams, and Rapid Response.
• Responds to and supervises helicopter arrivals/departures.
• Conducts monthly fire extinguisher inspections and completes assigned Fire Drills.
• Conducts FIRE WATCH and Interim Life Safety Measure (ILSM) Rounds as appropriate.
• Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Public Safety, communicating pertinent information efficiently.
• Acts as a visible representative of Arnot Health, assisting patients, visitors, and employees courteously and professionally, maintaining a neat appearance and proper uniform.
• Directs unauthorized persons away from premises.
• Provides security and escort services upon request, including safety escorts, direct observations, and escorts for mental health or substance abuse patients to court proceedings.
• Enforces parking policy.
• Completes at least one safety round per shift, covering the main hospital, grounds, and all other on-campus buildings.
• Performs scheduled and on-request locks/unlocks.
• Maintains a current NYS Security Guard License, including attending an annual 8-hour in-service course and managing renewal fees and paperwork.
• Successfully completes required training programs and maintains current certifications, including FEMA Independent Study Courses, IAHSS-Basic, AHA Basic Life Support (CPR & AED), Crisis Intervention, Practical and Tactical Handcuffing, Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training, and OSHA Hazmat for the First Receiver.
• Carries standard issue equipment (Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol - GEL and Handcuffs) while on duty after completing training.
• Attends additional in-service classes as assigned.
• Willing and able to work any location, day, or shift as required.
• Abides by all Arnot Health and departmental policies, rules, and regulations.
• Understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying customer/patient needs through friendly and caring interaction, attentiveness, and proactive communication to ensure a secure and pleasant experience.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent experience required.
• Eligible to be licensed as a Security Guard in NYS required.
• Must be in good physical condition, able to stand or walk a major portion of their tour in various weather conditions.
• Able to climb steps and ladders.
• Ability to lift heavy objects (minimum 40 lbs.).
• Mature personality with decision-making ability, capable of maintaining order during disturbances.
• Clean and valid Driver's License required.
• Provider CPR required within 90 days of hire date.
