Responsibilities
- Perform general interior and exterior building maintenance including cleaning, carpet cleaning, mopping, unstopping drains, painting, replacing light bulbs and lighting, water leaks, and minor repairs.
- Assess issues and perform repairs or recommend outside vendors.
- Clean and maintain handyman tools, ladders, and extension cords, ensuring equipment is in working order.
- Maintain supply of cleaning products and re-order as needed.
- Follow safety protocols to protect self, coworkers, and the public.
- Maintain manicured, safe, and debris-free landscaping, grounds, walkways, and drives, including cutting grass, using weed eaters/edgers, leaf blowers, planting seasonal flowers, and laying sod.
- Monitor and repair sprinkler systems.
- Observe safety rules and ensure compliance with operating procedures of corporate, federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA regulations and Safety and Environmental guidelines.
- Wash and clean all funeral home vehicles.
- Load and unload caskets.
Requirements
- High school education or GED.
- Trade school preferred.
- Experience in handyman, painting, or plumbing preferred.
- Ability to operate hand-held tools and equipment, including a shovel, pick, rake, sledgehammer, lawn mower, weed trimmer, and leaf blower.
- Ability to use measuring devices accurately (i.e., tape measure, yardstick).
- Ability to communicate effectively with fellow associates, contractor personnel, and client families.
- Ability to operate equipment in a safe and careful manner.
- Ability to effectively work with others to accomplish tasks.
- Work indoors and outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions.
- Exposure to moderate odors, dust, odor, pollen, or fumes may cause discomfort and/or irritation to eyes or respiratory passages.
- Exposure to loud noise from equipment/machines may require ear protection.
- Frequent, continuous periods of standing, up to 8 hours per day.
- Frequent climbing of stairs to access buildings.
- Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is required.
- Carrying and/or lifting materials up to 75 pounds.
- Working beyond standard hours as the need arises.
