About the Role

SOM is seeking a BIM Technologist to create, develop, and manage BIM models and drawings for structural engineering components of projects. This role involves contributing to BIM model management, organizing and distributing project deliverables, and guiding junior BIM technologists. The ideal candidate will identify opportunities for improvement, collaborate with engineers on data management in Revit, and develop firmwide BIM and drawing standards.

Responsibilities

  • Creates, develops, and manages the BIM model and drawings for structural engineering components of projects with direction from Structural Engineers.
  • Contributes to BIM model management.
  • Organizes or processes and distributes drawings, models or other project deliverables, as required.
  • Guides Junior BIM technologists to develop structural engineering BIM and drawing deliverables.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve upon deliverables.
  • Collaborates with engineers on updating and managing data in Revit model and schedules (as well as between external data sources and Revit).
  • Develops and implements firmwide standards relating to BIM workflow and management and drawing graphic standards.
  • Develops and delivers CAD drawing as required.
  • May be asked to work in AutoCAD or other legacy drawing platforms (but not typically).
  • Reliably handles workload to meet project task deadlines and commitments with regular interaction and direction from project leaders.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree or two years of college training or equivalent.
  • Four (4) to five (5) years of professional experience in BIM systems such as Revit to document structural information for large building projects.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and consistency in model-building, data-organization, and drawing set-up with a graphical style that is clear, consistent and artful.
  • Exhibits initiative, problem solving with a high attention to precision and accuracy at a task-specific level.
  • Effectively communicates internally through timely and appropriate means.
  • Understanding of structural engineering concepts and terms.
  • Knowledge of structural building systems and details (e.g., reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber).
  • Portfolios must be submitted for all design and project management positions.
  • Applications without work samples will not be reviewed.
  • Portfolios should be one PDF attachment, 10-20 pages, maximum 5 MB.
  • Submit portfolios as part of your application in the section where the application asks you for your Resume or CV.
