About the Role

The Medical Assistant role is to provide care to patients and significant others through direct and telephone contact, adhering to established standards and practices. This role involves coordinating with the care team for seamless care delivery, maximizing efforts, and ensuring active patient participation in care planning. The Medical Assistant will also assist physicians or other providers with clinical procedures.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates clinical competence in the direct care of patients and assisting MDs with procedures.
Performs clinical duties within scope of practice, complying with department standards, policies, and protocols.
Demonstrates a proactive approach to patient care, focusing on individual and family needs and communicating them promptly.
Directs and escorts patients to exam rooms in a timely manner.
Demonstrates clinical competence when assisting physicians/mid-level healthcare professionals and/or nurses during exams and office diagnostic procedures/treatments.
Performs authorized procedures competently, such as vital signs, vision screening, and selected laboratory tests, as directed.
Seeks validation/guidance from physicians, mid-level healthcare professionals, and/or nurses when necessary.
Prepares e-prescriptions for pharmacies as instructed by a physician per policy.
Inspects, cleans, prepares, and processes instruments/equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
Processes specimens for transport to the laboratory, ensuring proper labeling and order placement in EPIC.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic, or hospital setting OR Nationally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification from NAHP, NCCT, AAMA, AMT, or NHA.
