About the Role
AECOM is seeking a Safety, Health & Environmental Officer II for an onsite role based in New York, NY. This role involves implementing EHS management plans, supporting safety analyses and training, reviewing contractor submittals, facilitating EHS meetings, conducting site visits, and monitoring contractor compliance and performance.
Responsibilities
- Implement AECOM’s Construction Manager’s (CM) EHS Management Plan (EHSMP) and Environmental Health and Safety Plan (EHASP).
- Support the CM in preparation of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) in accordance with Client standards.
- Support the CM in conducting various training for CM staff, including new employee orientations, visitor orientations, and Emergency Action Plan training.
- Review all EHS related submittals by the Contractors, including EHASPs, JHAs, monthly reports, asbestos/lead/mercury/PCB management and sampling plans, waste management plans, soil re-use, hazardous waste contingency plans, erosion and sediment control plans, and Stormwater Pollution Prevent Plans (SWPPP).
- Facilitate weekly EHS meetings with the Contractor’s EHS Representative (EHSR) and other project management personnel.
- Conduct frequent construction site visits.
- Track and monitor the Contractor’s compliance with EHASP(s) and JHA(s).
- Track and monitor all site EHSRs’ performance, including reviewing daily reports and ensuring EHS issues are addressed.
- Perform and submit daily reports of the Contractors’ Work areas and document non-compliance.
- Review Contractor’s incident reports for adequacy, participate in related meetings, and verify corrective actions are implemented.
- Submit EHS monthly status reports and metrics, and prepare monthly trending analysis of Contractor EHS performance.
- Oversee Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and drills for the site in coordination with Client staff.
- Review and manage all EHS Annual Reports (e.g., EPCRA, Hazardous Waste, Confined Space).
Requirements
- BA/BS in Safety, Engineering or related degree plus 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
- 10 years of relevant EHS field and management experience in construction, preferably experience in underground construction & tunneling.
- Familiarity and experience with NYCDEP safety and health regulations.
- OSHA 10-hour Construction Health and Safety Course (30-hour Preferable).
- Initial and Annual Refresher OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120/1926.65 HAZWOPER.
- Knowledgeable in OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and 1910 Regulations.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certifications.
