About the Role
The Publicity Assistant role provides an intensive education in trade book publishing in a fast-paced, exciting, and highly collaborative environment. This role is ideal for a curious, confident, self-motivated person who loves books across all genres, understands and consumes media, and is interested in learning how to execute publicity strategy.
Responsibilities
- Assist publicity staff with high profile media campaigns for bestselling authors.
- Communicate with media, booksellers, in-house colleagues, authors, and agents.
- Pitch media and bookstores.
- Create and manage details in author itineraries.
- Update internal documents and systems.
- Coordinate mailings, publicity materials, and review copy requests.
- Organize travel and hotel logistics for author tours and special events.
- Process invoices, maintain title budgets for supervisors’ campaigns, and help with data entry related to campaigns.
- Perform online research to acquire publicity contacts and update media lists.
- Perform additional assignments, projects, and responsibilities, as needed.
Requirements
- Strong interest in book publishing, publicity and media relations, and in books across genres.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to juggle priorities in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Self-starter who takes initiative and wants to learn and grow.
- Proficiency with social media, internet research, and Microsoft Office Suite.
