About the Role
Chatham House is seeking PhD students to join its research community, offering an enriching working experience in a leading policy institute. This placement provides an opportunity for aspiring researchers to contribute to impactful projects and develop their skills within a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to a research project, including desk research, literature reviews, drafting publications, designing and undertaking research interviews, and collating feedback.
- Design, develop, and deliver research roundtables.
- Synthesize high-level workshop and conference discussions.
- Support the program in responding to international developments through research, writing briefs, and monitoring issues.
- Collaborate with colleagues from other research areas to draw together complementary research and explore potential collaborations.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for developing research and grant proposals.
- Gain experience in drafting, monitoring, and reconciling project reports and budgets.
- Support Chatham House events by identifying topics, suggesting speakers, and planning.
Requirements
- Must be a PhD student affiliated with one of the following DTPs: UCL, Bloomsbury and East London Doctoral Training Programme; London School of Economics Doctoral Training Programme; or London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Programme.
- Strong research skills in a relevant field, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
- Demonstrable interest in foreign policy and international affairs broadly.
- Excellent, professional written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under tight timeframes while balancing various tasks.
- A collaborative approach, able to form positive working relationships with people at all levels, internally and externally.
- Good IT skills and familiarity with Office 365 suite (including MS Teams, Word, and Outlook).
