About the Role
The 92nd Street Y Nursery School aims to foster a commitment to Early Childhood Education, supporting individual child development through a program that strives for excellence. As Head Teacher, this position ensures the Nursery School's mission is advanced and each child's development is supported.
Responsibilities
- Create a harmonious atmosphere by being flexible, respectful, and cooperative with all staff, sharing expertise and materials.
- Participate in curriculum planning.
- Undertake all teaching responsibilities as outlined in school curriculum.
- Plan and execute all areas of curriculum.
- Supervise the whole class group.
- Supervise children in all activities, indoors and outdoors.
- Supervise Assistant and Associate teachers.
- Manage parent communication, including conferences, phone calls, meetings, and monthly newsletters.
- Articulate 92NY’s Nursery School’s philosophy, mission, and goals to a varied audience.
- Respond to inquiries or complaints, including those of a sensitive and confidential nature.
- Effectively present information to parents, management, and staff in verbal and written formats.
- Complete written reports and conference notes for all children in the class for both internal and external reference.
- Observe and evaluate the progress of each child and maintain records.
- Participate in all faculty meetings, 92NY staff meetings, cohort meetings, and class team meetings.
- Present a clear vision of the classroom for parents on Curriculum night and throughout the year.
- Coordinate parent involvement in the classroom as necessary.
- Maintain classroom cleanliness and supplies.
- Utilize proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom, Brightwheel, and other digital platforms used by 92NY.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

- Maintain the highest level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and all sensitive school matters.
- Ability to work with a diverse cultural population.

Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom and Brightwheel and other digital platforms used by 92NY.
Work Type
- 37.50 hours per week
Experience Level
- Minimum of 5 – 7 years teaching experience.
Education Level
- Master’s in Early Childhood Development required
- N.Y.S. Certification preferred
Salary/Compensations
- $74,000 - $83,000
