About the Role

A TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Technician at Stony Brook Medicine provides clinical services, interprets laboratory procedures, and ensures proper patient care and safe work equipment. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and outstanding communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Paraffin embedding of biopsy, routine surgical specimens, placenta, autopsy, and research tissue.
• Performing paraffin microtomy techniques to produce 2-5 micron sections.
• Staining, coverslipping, and casing assembled, labeled, and distributed histology sections.
• Following all appropriate protocols for LIS systems: Copath, Ventana Benchmark, Ultra, Symphony, Vantage, and Copath.
• Completing routine and special requests for additional levels, recuts, special stains, and immunohistochemistry requests, verifying completion in Copath and documenting for QA.
• Performing the battery of special stains and immunohistochemistry used in diagnostic histopathology.
• Rotating responsibility for tasks and performing maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, including changing instrument reagents.
• Performing daily QA documentation for maintenance and temperature logs.
• Assisting with grossing biopsy specimens as assigned.

Requirements

• NYS License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist / documented eligibility including provisional/limited permit eligibility with demonstrated relevant experience or NYS License as a Histology Technician.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• HT (ASCP) or eligible.
• Experience in renal, nerve, muscle specimens and biopsy grossing.
• Verification of degree (e.g., diploma or official transcript) is required.
• Resume/CV should be included with the online application.
• Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance.
• Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
• Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen.
• Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Salary/Compensations

• $96,406 - $122,265 Base
• Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($4000)
• Night shift differential ($15,000)
• Evening shift differential ($10,000)
• Inconvenience pay/supplemental shift differential ($575)
