About the Role
Oak Street Health is seeking a Clinical Informatics Specialist (Medical Scribe) to support primary care providers with clinical documentation, enabling them to focus on exceptional patient care. This role involves real-time documentation, understanding value-based care models, and assisting providers in identifying and closing care gaps. Extensive on-the-job training is provided. This is an ideal opportunity for pre-med students or those pursuing careers in Health Informatics, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or Medical Coding.
Responsibilities
- Document patient encounters in real-time, including history, assessment, plan, and physical exam.
- Assign appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Prepare After Visit Summaries.
- Consult with providers to ensure accurate and specific documentation.
- Request and review medical records.
- Leverage population health tools to support clinical documentation improvement.
- Prepare for and support Daily Huddles and Clinical Documentation Reviews.
- Consult with providers on clinical documentation opportunities.
- Place orders and referrals.
- Address tasks.
- Support the care team with additional responsibilities related to clinical documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications.
- Prior clinical experience, including shadowing and/or volunteering is strongly preferred.
- Prior scribe or transcription experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to adapt to new workflows and quickly learn new concepts and skills.
- Ability and willingness to take direction and be a member of a team providing patient care.
- Excellent job attendance.
- Ability to commit to at least 1 year in the role (2+ is ideal).
- Ability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week during clinic hours.
- Compliance with hospital and Oak Street Health policies, including HIPAA.
- US work authorization.
Skills
- Advanced listening and communication skills.
- Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows.
- Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by people in the communities we serve (required where indicated).
- Ability to type 70+ words per minute is strongly preferred.
