About the Role
The Museum of Modern Art is seeking a Selling Specialist for the MoMA Design Store, Soho. This role is integral to achieving store sales and metric goals by delivering knowledgeable, inspiring customer service and partnering with management on sales strategies. The position upholds MoMA's standards and supports a holistic visitor experience, aiming to create positive customer interactions that encourage repeat business and positive word-of-mouth.
Responsibilities
- Leads by example on the selling floor, engaging customers to increase conversion and average transaction amounts.
- Connects with customers to enhance their experience, using suggestive selling and promoting museum memberships.
- Captures customer email addresses at point of sale during transactions.
- Promotes acquisition and engagement with the MoMA Design Store Rewards program.
- Participates in client development initiatives, including maintaining a customer relationship management (CRM) system.
- Assists with merchandising and ensures optimal stock levels and presentation.
- Assesses product performance, provides feedback to management, and coordinates product training for Sales Associates.
- Reviews and analyzes sales and margin reports to identify opportunities and develop selling strategies.
- Maintains inventory levels, identifies discrepancies, conducts mini inventories, and participates in physical inventory.
- Assists managers in training programs for new staff and demonstrates functions during shadowing.
- Performs in-store product demonstrations to engage customers.
- Attends product, vendor, and customer service training.
- Regularly performs functions of different Visitor Experience team positions as assigned by management.
- Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described.
- Visits the Museum regularly to stay informed about current exhibitions and collections.
- Attends at least two curator-led walkthroughs.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Completes and refreshes knowledge of all MoMA Design Store Training Modules.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
- Two years of related retail experience.
- Strong organizational and communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Customer engagement oriented.
- Organized, detail-oriented with superb time management skills.
- Proactive self-starter who exhibits initiative and leadership.
- Proficiency with POS, Word, Excel, Google workspace, and Order Entry.
