About the Role

The English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher is passionate about helping English Language Learners (ELL) become proficient in English and access grade-level curriculum. This role holds primary responsibility for implementing ENL instruction alongside general or special education instruction.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, determine goals for, and track progress of individual English language learners using diagnostic and state-mandated assessments.
• Provide direct ENL instruction to small groups of students or inclusion support for ELA classes containing ELL students.
• Work with ELL students during assigned periods to help them access general education curriculum, build ELA skills, and support language acquisition through technology.
• Attend IEP meetings for English Learners and complete case management and compliance responsibilities.
• Advise teachers on modifying/accommodating curriculum for ELL students and share best practices for sheltered content instruction.
• Maintain updated and accurate records of ELL identification and performance data.
• Implement curricula and activities to meet high academic standards.
• Analyze assessments to measure progress and inform instructional practices.
• Focus on student learning and respond to student learning needs.
• Create a positive, structured learning environment aligned with school values and conduct.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
• Commit to continual professional growth, including staff orientation and ongoing instructional training.
• Participate in and support grade-level activities and school-wide functions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• NY State ESOL or Bilingual Certification preferred but not required.

• Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred.
• Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher by the time employment begins.

• $72,000 to $115,000
