About the Role
The FinOps Engineer is a highly technical, operational role focused on bridging the gap between code, infrastructure, and cost to ensure cloud architecture is efficient and scalable. This role enables an efficient local cloud cost footprint by acting as the primary liaison between Finance, Leadership, and Engineering to drive workload optimization, architectural efficiency, and budget adherence.
Responsibilities
- Actively rightsizing cloud resources through hands-on collaboration with Engineering, implementing rightsizing, auto-scaling policies, and instance migrations.
- Serve as a "Cost Architect" during design phases to ensure new services are built for cost-efficiency.
- Lead efforts to identify and decommission orphaned cloud resources.
- Adhere to and actively contribute to FinOps Central team policies, standards, and governance guidelines.
- Implement and enforce automated tagging schemas to ensure 100% cost allocation across local microservices using Policy-as-Code.
- Shift the culture from "Total Spend" to Cloud Unit Economics, tracking and optimizing the $/kMAU.
- Build and maintain technical dashboards for engineers to provide real-time visibility into the cost impact of their code.
- Monitor daily spend to ensure the local team stays within defined variance thresholds.
- Act as the first responder for technical cost spikes, performing root-cause analysis and implementing immediate technical remediation.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, DevOps, or SRE roles.
- Deep hands-on experience with AWS.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
- Strong SQL skills for granular billing analysis.
- Experience building visualization dashboards.
- Ability to translate complex cloud billing data into actionable technical tickets and insights.
