About the Role

Under the direction of a supervising physician, the Physician Assistant provides high quality, efficient, team-based patient-focused care. Responsibilities may include managing patients in the office, hospital, ED, and/or perioperative setting, with potential for first assisting in the OR or performing other department-specific procedures. On-call responsibilities may also be required. Daily duties can vary based on department and supervising physician needs, potentially including evening or weekend work.

Responsibilities

Examines patients, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles medical data, including health history and physical exam results.
Administers or orders diagnostic tests and interprets results.
Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
Performs other department-specific diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in providing continuity of care.
Instructs and counsels patients regarding therapeutic regimens, growth and development, family planning, emotional problems, and health maintenance.
Facilitates admissions, transfers, and discharges.
First assists in surgeries or performs procedures as applicable.
Rounds on inpatients.
Performs admission evaluations, including obtaining medical information, reviewing records, performing physical exams, documenting findings, and reporting deviations to the attending physician.
Provides pre-operative/pre-procedure and other pertinent education to patients and families.
Answers questions regarding surgery, procedures, recovery, and risk factor modification.
Performs peri-operative procedures.
Locates and utilizes diagnostic images, instruments, and pertinent patient information.
Reviews patient charts for allergies, pertinent medical history, and abnormal physical findings.
Assists in performing surgical procedures and other procedures consistent with standards of care and practice guidelines.
May work as First Assist during surgical procedures, start IVs, and/or perform suturing depending on specialty.
Performs post-operative procedures, including entering standard orders, assisting with patient evaluation and management during recovery, reviewing vital signs and studies, and assisting with patient management.
Dictates discharge and transfer summaries in a timely manner.
Proficiency in performing transvaginal ultrasound examination for the evaluation of the uterus and ovaries.

Requirements

Graduate from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program by start date.
Physician Assistant License (California) required at hire.
Physician Assistant National Certificate required at hire.
Basic Life Support certification required.
National Provider Identifier required at hire.
Fluoroscopy Permit required, or must be obtained within 18 months from the date of hire in Orthopedics, Interventional Radiology, and Radiation Oncology only.
May be required to have experience and competency in performing specific tasks required by department.
Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
