About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Server Side Software Developer for an 18-month fixed-term contract to build a new Developer Experience platform. This platform will enhance the Guardian's engineering team's efficiency by improving observability, deployment capabilities, and software development ease. As a server-side engineer, you will work with Scala back-ends, various database, and streaming technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Programming primarily in Scala and TypeScript, running in AWS.
  • Working in a cross-functional, empowered team to rapidly iterate and release new features.
  • Collaborating closely with team members through pair programming and with developers across other product teams.
  • Contributing to both product and technical decisions.
  • Mentoring and developing other developers while continuing personal growth.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience as a software developer programming in Scala and Typescript, running in AWS.
  • Experience working in Scala back-end development.
  • Experience with database and streaming technologies.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional team in an agile environment.
  • Excitement for shaping the future of digital journalism.
  • Curiosity about the organization's overall direction.
