About the Role

The Manager, Product Communications will serve as the connective tissue for product storytelling at MongoDB, surfacing narratives and wins across the business and translating them into external stories. This role involves story mining, executive thought leadership, and media relations, spanning MongoDB's full product portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Own story mining across the business, proactively surfacing product narratives worth pitching to media and other external audiences.
  • Build and execute an executive thought leadership program for product leaders, securing bylines, speaking opportunities, and other platforms.
  • Manage day-to-day media relations for product-related stories, including cultivating reporter relationships and pitching proactively.
  • Serve as the connective tissue between Comms and Product Marketing, translating product roadmaps and positioning into external-facing narratives.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Partner Marketing, Customer Marketing, Strategic Events, and Builder Relations to identify and integrate storytelling opportunities.
  • Rethink the PR playbook for the AI era, focusing on winning with builder audiences and making MongoDB's story discoverable and credible.
  • Develop and maintain messaging for product communications activities and help train company spokespeople.
  • Contribute to and help execute MongoDB's product-related communications strategy, including supporting campaigns, launches, and programming.
  • Jointly manage the relationship with MongoDB's PR agency alongside the broader Communications team.
  • Monitor industry news, competitive activity, and media/social trends to identify proactive storytelling opportunities and inform strategy.
  • Set success metrics for product communications programs, track results, and report on impact.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working in comms programs for leading technology companies and/or high growth global B2B systems, SaaS, enterprise software, or cloud computing provider.
  • Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to translate complex, technical product concepts into meaningful and compelling stories for a range of audiences.
  • A proven track record developing and executing multiple communications programs simultaneously, with limited guidance.
  • Established media relationships and experience securing coverage with technology, business, and trade press.
  • Experience building or supporting executive thought leadership programs (bylines, speaking, external platforms).
  • Confident leadership skills who can collaborate with a diverse set of C-level executives, leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience partnering across marketing functions such as Product Marketing, Customer Marketing, Partner Marketing, etc.
  • A data-informed approach to measuring and reporting on communications impact.
  • Comfort operating with a high degree of ambiguity and juggling shifting priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders, including Directors and above.
