About the Role
The Medical Assistant - NY supports the delivery of urological services, performs work as required, and functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team. This position performs routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep medical offices running smoothly and collaborates with staff to achieve effective patient care.
Responsibilities
- Perform various administrative and clinical duties under supervision.
- Coordinate and schedule patient appointments.
- Greet and prepare patients for examinations.
- Measure and record vital signs.
- Record patient interview and history.
- Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine screening tests.
- Assist physicians with exams.
- Perform phlebotomy and collect lab specimens.
- Perform basic lab tests.
- Perform EKGs after required training.
- Perform CPR skills when necessary if BLS Certified.
- Prepare accurate, legal, and ethical documentation.
- Open and close the office.
- Maintain patient logs for lab requests, CT scans, and other treatment orders.
- Ensure efficient back office flow, manage room occupancy, and assist with room turnover.
- Perform new patient work-ups including x-rays, vitals, and packet explanation.
- Update medical history for new and established patients.
- Perform accurate and complete room set-up for physicians.
- Ensure all patient medications are updated before physician visits.
- Handle set-up for in-office surgical procedures.
- Ensure appropriate consent forms are completed correctly.
- Scribe as assigned.
- Prepare for the next day's patients, including confirmation.
- Complete patient medical record requests.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new personnel.
- Ensure proper hand-off of responsibilities.
- Meet attendance criteria and start work promptly.
- Be punctual and dependable for assigned shifts.
- Respect and acknowledge the organization's commitment to cultural diversity.
- Demonstrate good use of time and resources.
- Ensure all medical records are accurate and complete.
- Adhere to and support compliance and accreditation efforts, including OSHA, HIPAA, and CMS guidelines.
- Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
- Adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
- Report any suspected concerns or violations.
- Complete Annual Compliance Training.
Requirements
- Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience.
- 6 months experience working within a physician’s office desired.
- Urology experience desired.
- Minimal travel required.
- Ability to perform well in stressful situations.
- Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR, Practice Management Solutions.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
- Project Management.
- Vendor relations (for those MA’s that are required to order office and clinical supplies).
- Database management.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Skill in using computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Delivers exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
