About the Role

OHLA USA is seeking an Associate Counsel in New York to join our team and contribute to impactful infrastructure projects. This role involves advising senior executives, managing legal processes, and supporting project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of construction and commercial contracts.
  • Draft corporate documents, joint venture, and partnership agreements.
  • Advise senior-level executives on legal, operational, compliance, and regulatory risk and corporate governance matters.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve legal processes and reduce risk.
  • Develop strategies for resolving disputes and claims, supervise outside counsel on litigation, and represent OHLA in mediations.
  • Develop deep relationships with construction project teams and key business partners.
  • Tour projects and assist project staff as necessary.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor or LL.M degree.
  • NY Bar admission.
  • At least 5+ years of experience with background in public contracting, infrastructure projects, bidding, or procurement.
  • Prior experience directly advising clients on complex matters.
  • Solid experience in balancing business needs and risk.
  • Government experience in infrastructure is preferred.

Skills

  • Fluency with legal research tools, MS Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Analytical skills and ability to develop reasoning independently.
  • Brilliant writing skills; ability to craft compelling and persuasive narratives and draft favorable agreements without legalese.
  • Eagerness to learn and think creatively.
  • Strong interpersonal awareness.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing demands, and adjust to rapidly changing priorities.
