About the Role
The Lead Copywriter works with an art director or designer to conceive, write, revise and execute advertising copy for internal and external marketing channels. This position provides guidance and/or training to less seasoned team members and may manage others.
Responsibilities
- Works in close-knit creative partnership with a designer or art director, an art supervisor, and assigned creative teams to generate workable concepts and ideas.
- Understands and often oversees the implementation of internal review and routing systems; makes revisions to work, identifies problems or inconsistencies, and independently solves problems.
- Writes clear, persuasive, original copy for the most complex projects, including original catchphrases, slogans, messages, and headlines.
- Writes and supervises the writing of all wording in any type of advertising materials, such as video, radio, print (brochures, print ads, collateral), and digital content (websites, microsites, banners, social).
- Leads brainstorms of ideas and concepts.
- Expertly adapts a concept to all mediums including print, video, digital, and other current and emerging mediums.
- Submits ideas (self and teams) and discusses progress with his/her direct supervisor.
- Amends, revises, or redevelops campaigns in response to feedback from supervisor, upper management, and/or clients.
- Works on and manages several campaigns at once, under pressure and on tight deadlines.
- Proofreads copy to check spelling and grammar.
- Oversees and manages projects through the production stage to completion.
- Keeps self and others up to date with popular culture and trends.
- Understands the importance of ensuring final output (art and copy) is aligned with Travelers brand guidelines and follows internal approval processes.
- Collaborates closely with assigned business units.
- Presents work to clients.
- Mentors and helps define the career path of other writers.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Journalism or related field or equivalent experience.
- 5-7 years of related copywriting experience.
- Thorough knowledge of company products, services, marketing strategies, and company editorial standards/practices.
- Deep marketing knowledge and writing ability.
- An exceptional on-line portfolio showcasing an understanding of the craft of copywriting.
- Portfolio can be a mix of spec and actual work demonstrating innovative concepts and creative solutions; actual work should be the majority of the portfolio.
- Expert level copywriting skills.
- Expert level project management skills; ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently, as a team member, and as a team lead.
- Expert level concepting skills.
- Deep analytic and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates time-management and multi-tasking abilities.
- Ability to mentor, lead, or manage others (informally or formally).

Salary/Compensations
- $94,400.00 - $155,800.00
