About the Role

RSM is seeking an Assurance Senior Associate to join their public sector assurance practice, serving governments, not-for-profit organizations, and foundations. This role offers the opportunity to help these organizations better achieve their missions and serve their constituents.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, high-quality client service that meets or exceeds client expectations.
  • Coordinate audits of complex financial statements, related disclosures, and other client deliverables.
  • Develop an understanding of the client's business and needs, becoming an industry specialist.
  • Understand and utilize RSM’s Global Audit Methodology.
  • Train and supervise Audit Associates, functioning as an in-charge to facilitate field work.
  • Monitor and report on productivity and adherence to work plan schedules.
  • Anticipate and address client concerns, escalating issues as they arise.
  • Ensure efficient information flow between clients and the audit team.
  • Identify and communicate significant accounting and auditing matters to management and partners.
  • Provide insightful feedback on financial statements and prepare client deliverables.
  • Recognize industry-specific and general accounting and auditing issues and determine appropriate audit approaches.
  • Identify performance improvement opportunities for team members.
  • Ensure professional development through ongoing education.
  • Willingness to travel 25% of the year, depending on clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline from an accredited University.
  • Active CPA license or demonstrated progress toward CPA licensure.
  • 2–3 years of recent assurance experience in a public accounting environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and auditing software tools.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, CASs or other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to apply relevant accounting and auditing standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment.
  • Experience supporting audit engagements from planning through completion.
  • Ability to perform testing, assist with financial statement preparation, review workpapers, and mentor staff.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively with firm personnel and clients.
  • Effective project management skills, including managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and quality of work.
  • Ability to work effectively in a professional office environment and at client sites.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer.
  • Ability to work extended and/or non-standard hours during peak periods.
  • Ability to maintain consistent, onsite presence during core business hours.
  • Ability to regularly report to a firm office location and travel to client sites.
  • Ability to maintain access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move miscellaneous items (typically under 20 lbs.).
