About the Role
RSM is seeking an Assurance Senior Associate to join their public sector assurance practice, serving governments, not-for-profit organizations, and foundations. This role offers the opportunity to help these organizations better achieve their missions and serve their constituents.
Responsibilities
- Provide timely, high-quality client service that meets or exceeds client expectations.
- Coordinate audits of complex financial statements, related disclosures, and other client deliverables.
- Develop an understanding of the client's business and needs, becoming an industry specialist.
- Understand and utilize RSM’s Global Audit Methodology.
- Train and supervise Audit Associates, functioning as an in-charge to facilitate field work.
- Monitor and report on productivity and adherence to work plan schedules.
- Anticipate and address client concerns, escalating issues as they arise.
- Ensure efficient information flow between clients and the audit team.
- Identify and communicate significant accounting and auditing matters to management and partners.
- Provide insightful feedback on financial statements and prepare client deliverables.
- Recognize industry-specific and general accounting and auditing issues and determine appropriate audit approaches.
- Identify performance improvement opportunities for team members.
- Ensure professional development through ongoing education.
- Willingness to travel 25% of the year, depending on clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline from an accredited University.
- Active CPA license or demonstrated progress toward CPA licensure.
- 2–3 years of recent assurance experience in a public accounting environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and auditing software tools.
- Working knowledge of GAAP, CASs or other relevant regulatory requirements.
- Ability to apply relevant accounting and auditing standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
- Ability to exercise professional judgment.
- Experience supporting audit engagements from planning through completion.
- Ability to perform testing, assist with financial statement preparation, review workpapers, and mentor staff.
- Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively with firm personnel and clients.
- Effective project management skills, including managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and quality of work.
- Ability to work effectively in a professional office environment and at client sites.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and work at a computer.
- Ability to work extended and/or non-standard hours during peak periods.
- Ability to maintain consistent, onsite presence during core business hours.
- Ability to regularly report to a firm office location and travel to client sites.
- Ability to maintain access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to occasionally lift or move miscellaneous items (typically under 20 lbs.).
