About the Role
Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Coordinator. This role involves a split schedule between the Speech Pathology Home Care program and the main campus inpatient clinical care environment, requiring a Monday-Friday onsite schedule.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to Home Care patients.
- Oversee and supervise Speech-Language Pathologists providing direct patient care to home care patients.
- Participate in recruitment, interviewing, hiring, orientation, and onboarding of new Home Care Speech Pathologists.
- Ensure reinforcement of workflow, epic education, clinical mentoring, and TJC preparedness.
- Ensure completion and documentation of all Speech-Language Pathology and Home Care competencies.
- Ensure patients are recertified according to criteria and monitor progress reports for recertification.
- Complete peer reviews and annual performance reviews for direct reports.
- Update shared drive with documentation for orientation, licensure, Job Aids, and meeting minutes.
- Plan and lead quarterly SLP Home Care meetings.
- Ensure regulatory knowledge of home care, including TJC and CMS expectations.
- Conduct biannual supervisory visits for each SLP on the team.
- Manage assignment of patients, including new agency and Starshine Speech Pathology/Hospice patients.
- Oversee SLP clinical schedule, availability, and upcoming openings for efficient patient scheduling.
- Assure assignment and continued care of patients meet home care criteria.
- Coordinate with Home Care to set and revise staff education related to HHC policy and procedures.
- Maintain active participation in and management of monthly multi-disciplinary case conferencing.
- Participate in and contribute to monthly HHC Blitz education.
- Active participation in HHC professional governance.
- Attend epic upgrade training and cascade information to the SLP HC team.
- Attend discretionary meetings with HHC for training and cascading information.
- Serve as a mentor for staff working on clinical competencies.
- Work with the inpatient SLP leadership team to identify and implement workflow and process improvements.
- Provide management support for inpatient Speech-Language Pathologists.
- Perform as an expert diagnostician and therapist, including mentoring/supervising students and clinicians.
- Administer appropriate tests, make accurate diagnoses, and provide recommendations and referrals.
- Counsel parents and provide handouts and home programs.
- Determine appropriate frequency and duration of therapy using best practice decision-making.
- Formulate appropriate goals for every patient in treatment.
- Involve parents in the treatment plan and process.
- Structure sessions and select appropriate intervention strategies.
- Document progress daily and update treatment plans as appropriate.
- Complete all required documentation and charges within standard time frames.
- Determine discharge criteria and prepare patients for discharge or transition.
- Manage schedule and patient visits for productivity and billing targets.
- Anticipate scheduling variability and make adjustments.
- Participate in determining clinical and specialty needs at assigned locations.
- Assist with orientation of new staff.
- Provide supervision, mentoring, coaching, goal setting, development, counseling, and recognition for assigned staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and assure completion of competencies, training, continuing education, and licensure.
- Coordinate clinical activities of staff and manage schedules and assignments.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Manager on staff scheduling and metrics.
- Communicate with staff through regularly scheduled meetings.
- Maintain at least 2 advanced competencies and serve as a clinical specialist.
- Ensure processes and procedures are state-of-the-art, current, effective, and efficient.

- Supervise ordering and stocking of supplies and materials.
- Represent the SLP division on site and hospital workgroups/committees.
- Represent the SLP division and CCH in professional organizations.
- Respond to the need for work on special projects or development of new procedures.
- Recognize opportunities for improvement and generate performance improvement activities.
- Stay current with professional issues related to clinical practice and operational management.
- Be an active participant on the division Leadership Team.
- Stay current with advances in speech-language pathology practice.
- Play a critical role in supporting health literacy.
- Stay current in understanding and use of ICF-CY, DSM, and CPT codes.
- Contribute to local, regional, and national conversations involving relevant professional issues.
- Coordinate and manage a program or clinical site, including personnel, service delivery, and budgetary responsibilities.
Requirements
- Master's degree in speech-language pathology or communication sciences & disorders
- Active license in speech-language pathology in the state of practice
- Hold Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) granted by American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
- Maintain core and advanced Speech-Language Pathology competencies in birth-three, dysphagia complex, and AAC
- 8+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
