About the Role

We are looking for a sharp, commercially-minded Legal Counsel (NQ/PQE) to join our small Legal team and grow with us. You will get hands-on exposure to legal questions relevant to a modern enterprise software company, including contracting with global insurers, brokers and MGAs, intellectual property protection, responsible AI use and governance, and regulatory compliance for financial services technology vendors. You will be trusted with real work from day one, see deals end-to-end, and help design the legal playbooks and processes needed for a fast-growing insurtech to scale safely.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate customer and vendor agreements, including SaaS terms, MSAs, order forms, statements of work, data processing agreements, professional services and consultancy contracts, and NDAs.
• Advise on evolving technology contract requirements in financial services, such as DORA-style ICT third-party obligations, operational resilience flow-downs, AI value-chain provisions, and practical customer clauses.
• Shape contract templates and positions as regulations evolve.
• Protect and commercialize intellectual property, including the platform, proprietary language (Brossa), models, and brand.
• Advise on IP ownership and licensing in customer and supplier agreements.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering on IP and open-source policy.
• Serve as a trusted advisor on UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and related data protection and privacy regimes.
• Review DPAs and sub-processor arrangements.
• Assist with customer security and privacy questionnaires.
• Partner with Compliance and Information Security teams.
• Develop legal processes, including playbooks, templates, fallback positions, intake forms, and approval matrices.
• Optimize the use of our CLM system.
• Work with Commercial, Product, Engineering, Security, Compliance, and Finance teams.
• Translate complex legal points into clear, actionable advice for business decision-making.
• Monitor and advise on relevant developments such as AI regulation, operational resilience, data protection reform, and sectoral guidance.

Requirements

• Newly qualified solicitor (England & Wales) or up to around 1 year PQE.
• Ideally trained at a leading London law firm (Magic Circle, Silver Circle, leading City or top US firm).
• Completed a client secondment or in-house seat during training contract, with a desire to focus on the business side.
• Meaningful exposure across at least two of: commercial contracts (especially technology/SaaS), intellectual property, employment, and data protection.
• Clear writing skills, able to simplify complex obligations for non-lawyers.
• Commercial curiosity and a desire to understand deal objectives and customer needs.
• Excitement about AI, technology, and the evolving regulatory landscape (EU AI Act, DORA, operational resilience, ICT contracting standards).
• Ability to operate with autonomy and ambiguity, and to seek help when needed.
• A second in-house seat, fintech or insurtech secondment, or post-qualification experience supporting technology or financial services clients is a plus.
• Awareness of ISO 27001, SOC 2, and similar security frameworks and their contractual implications is a plus.
• Experience drafting or negotiating AI-related contractual provisions is a plus.
• Background checks may include criminal record check, credit history review, employer references, and academic qualification confirmation.
