About the Role

Join a team developing next-generation optical metrology and machine vision systems that support advanced manufacturing and product development. This position combines optical engineering, computer vision, machine learning, and software development to create innovative inspection and measurement solutions used in production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate optical metrology and machine vision systems.
  • Develop image processing algorithms for measurement, inspection, feature extraction, and defect detection.
  • Build and deploy machine learning models to improve inspection accuracy and system performance.
  • Integrate hardware and software solutions into manufacturing workflows.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, operations, and IT teams to define system requirements.
  • Transition new technologies from development into production.
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and continuously improve deployed measurement systems.
  • Create technical documentation, operating procedures, and user manuals.
  • Train engineering, maintenance, and operations personnel.
  • Support domestic and international travel (10-30%) for system deployment and customer support.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience developing optical metrology, machine vision, or automated inspection systems.
  • Hands-on experience with optical systems, cameras, imaging hardware, lighting, and precision measurement equipment.
  • Strong programming experience with Python and/or C#.
  • Experience developing machine vision algorithms including edge detection, blob analysis, morphology, feature extraction, and object classification.
  • Experience applying machine learning techniques, including CNNs and traditional computer vision methods.
  • Experience with OpenCV, Halcon, LabVIEW, or similar machine vision software.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using Python, MATLAB, or Excel for data analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to create technical documentation and train end users.
  • Experience with optical metrology technologies including laser measurement, 3D imaging, and physical optics.
  • Motion control and precision automation experience.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Experience with database technologies and high-performance computing.
  • Background supporting manufacturing inspection and quality systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.
