About the Role

Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms on physician referred patients according to established clinical protocols and MQSA, ARRT and IEMA guidelines. Participates in advanced mammographic procedures and performs equipment QA testing. Promotes education of breast health awareness and the mammography process, including clinical training and subcommittee participation. Must maintain appropriate ECE requirements yearly.

Responsibilities

Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms according to established clinical protocols and guidelines.
Delivers patient care in accordance with department/hospital standards.
Accurately labels and identifies all images.
Applies radiation protection to patients.
Documents patient history and pertinent clinical information.
Participates in advanced mammographic procedures such as wire localizations, galactograms, stereotactic biopsy and specimen radiographs.
Demonstrates proper use of all procedural equipment.
Discusses reporting structure to physician for the patient.
Acts as a liaison to the patient for facilitating and directing to other resources.
Provides pre and post procedure education and instruction to the patient.
Documents and transports specimens to pathology.
Performs mammography equipment and processing QA testing.
Participates in promoting education of breast health awareness and the mammography process.
Participates in clinical training of the partnership with the college of Dupage mammography program.
Participates in Mammography sub-committee programs.
Maintains appropriate ECE requirements yearly.
Keeps abreast of changes in regulatory requirements, including FDA, IDNS, ACR, and MQSA.
Engages in continuous learning and review of new and emerging technologies.
Demonstrates confidence and has a calming effect on patients.
Is flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and growing patient volume.
Lifts up to 35 pounds without assistance.
Complies with mandatory inservices for Fire Safety, MRI Safety, and Universal Precautions.
Maintains CPR Certification.
Maintains professional decorum and adheres to dress code.

Requirements

Graduate of AMA Approved Program in Radiologic Technology.
1-2 years experience as Radiologic Technologist or sonographer.
Graduate of a Mammography certified program.
Knowledge of breast anatomy.
Ability to recognize patients experiencing fear or anxiety.
Ability to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients.
Must keep abreast of changes in regulatory requirements, including FDA, IDNS, ACR, and MQSA.
Must engage in continuous learning and review of new and emerging technologies.
Position best performed by a female who enjoys working with women in health related issues.
Mature women tend to relate better to this patient population.
Must understand and take serious the social and psychological issues associated with mammography.
Must demonstrate confidence in one’s own ability and have a calming effect on patients and others.
Must be flexible and be able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and growing patient volume.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
