About the Role

As a Home & Careers Teacher at the Tilton School, you will play a key role in helping students heal, grow, and discover new possibilities. You will teach essential life and career skills through practical, hands-on instruction in a structured environment with small class sizes and a high staff-to-student ratio.

Responsibilities

  • Teach essential skills in areas such as nutrition, cooking, financial literacy, career readiness, decision-making, and personal wellness.
  • Personalize teaching grounded in each student’s goals.
  • Work in a structured environment with small class sizes and a high staff-to-student ratio.
  • Support students in making significant academic and personal gains.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a valid NYS teaching certificate in Family and Consumer Sciences (Home & Careers), or an equivalent teaching certificate obtained through a NYS-approved pathway that leads to a master’s degree in education and permanent certification.
  • Certification in Special Education strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience teaching students with IEPs or emotional/behavioral challenges is a plus.
  • Must meet all NYSED and agency training requirements.

Skills

  • Skilled at building rapport with students who have experienced adversity.
  • Able to create engaging, real-world lessons that support academic and life skill development.
  • Organized and responsive to deadlines and documentation requirements.
  • Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Open to learning and reflective practice.
