About the Role
Nuix is seeking a Design Manager to lead its design practice, establish global design standards, and shape end-to-end customer experiences for complex B2B products. This player-coach role involves growing and coaching the design team while actively participating in rapid prototyping and customer testing.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and grow the design team, fostering a culture of customer centricity, craft, ownership, and psychological safety.
- Develop each designer through critique, feedback, and stretch opportunities.
- Set and maintain the quality bar for design as the team and portfolio scale.
- Direct external UX partners/agency to accelerate design uplift, setting scope, standards, and quality expectations.
- Own the transition of design practices, systems, and standards in-house.
- Manage the blend of internal and external capacity across competing priorities.
- Own the end-to-end customer experience across complex B2B products, including journeys, service touchpoints, and workflows.
- Run continuous discovery through user interviews, usability testing, and competitive analysis, utilizing AI-assisted synthesis.
- Engage deeply with key enterprise customers, advisory boards, and partners to inform design decisions.
- Integrate accessibility (WCAG compliance) into the design process from the outset.
- Establish global design patterns, guardrails, and frameworks for consistent experiences across squads, products, and regions.
- Build and maintain a shared design system treated as a product.
- Define and scale the design practice's ways of working, including an AI-native process.
- Maintain a shared insight repository to compound research across the portfolio.
Requirements
- Proven design leadership experience (Head of Design, Design Manager, Principal or Lead level) with a track record of building, coaching, and developing design teams.
- Experience and service design strength in complex B2B software, covering the full product lifecycle from research to shipped product.
- A track record of establishing scalable patterns and practices, including design systems, guardrails, and ways of working adopted across multiple teams.
- Experience directing or working alongside external design partners/agencies, including transitioning capability in-house.
- Proficiency in AI-native workflows, using AI tools daily for prototyping and research synthesis.
- Research fluency, including planning research programs, conducting interviews, synthesizing findings, and presenting insights.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, translating design and research into audience-specific language.
- Experience in a consultancy or agency environment working across multiple clients (Desired).
- Experience designing AI products and features (Desired).
- Comfort in developer-adjacent workflows, including design tokens, artifacts in repos, and design-to-code tooling (Desired).
