About the Role
The Office of Press Relations & Press Communications seeks an Associate Public Information Specialist Level II to serve as an Associate Press Secretary. This role involves managing rapid response communications, drafting media materials, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure accurate and aligned public information dissemination for the Department of Social Services, Human Resources Administration, and Department of Homeless Services.
Responsibilities
- Manage rapid response communication tasks and ensure accurate information dissemination aligned with agency and administration goals.
- Interface with media contacts (editors, reporters, interviewers) for various outlets and respond to inquiries within deadlines.
- Draft media advisories, press releases, and other communications products by gathering and analyzing policy information and data from agency experts.
- Implement edits and revisions throughout the drafting process and obtain necessary reviews and approvals.
- Communicate with the Mayor’s press office and press staff across City agencies.
- Plan and staff press events, collaborating with external partners, city agencies, and the Mayor's Office.
- Develop event or initiative messaging, coordinate with Agency staff, and execute reporter pitch strategies.
- Research and update media lists.
- Manage media databases.
- Distribute DHS press releases.
Requirements
- Must be permanent in the Associate Public Information Specialist Civil Service title.
- A master's degree in journalism or public relations from an accredited college; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in public relations, journalism or advertising; or
- An associate degree or completion of 60 credits from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in public relations, journalism or advertising; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with a minimum of 60 credits from an accredited college.
- For Assignment Level II: At least one additional year of full-time experience in public relations, journalism, or advertising after meeting the minimum requirements for Assignment Level I.
