About the Role

The ACE (Assess. Connect. Engage.) unit within the Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (BHHS) provides partner services to New Yorkers newly diagnosed with HIV. Staff are responsible for identifying, tracing, and notifying partners, linking newly diagnosed individuals to clinical care, and conducting outreach to providers and community organizations to curb the spread of HIV.

Responsibilities

• Interview HIV-diagnosed persons to elicit HIV-exposed partners and notify them.
• Administer HIV rapid testing in mobile settings.
• Connect newly diagnosed individuals to HIV clinical care.
• Use HIV transmission network data to identify and reach out to individuals not in care.
• Trace and locate HIV-diagnosed persons who are out-of-care.
• Engage HIV-diagnosed persons and their partners with HIV prevention and ancillary services.
• Link HIV-negative partners to PrEP providers for evaluation and counseling.
• Collect data on HIV cases for surveillance and case investigation, including medical record review and interviews.
• Serve in an activated role for COVID-19 work, including investigations.
• Conduct patient and provider interviews and medical record reviews during disease outbreaks.
• Perform contact tracing and notification efforts during disease outbreaks.

Requirements

• Must be a permanent employee in the title or reachable on the Public Health Adviser civil service list.
• Baccalaureate degree with 12 semester credits in health education, health, social, or biological sciences.
• Baccalaureate degree with 6 months of full-time experience in health promotion or disease intervention/prevention.
• Four-year high school diploma or equivalent with 4 years of full-time experience in health promotion or disease intervention/prevention.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience.
• Assignment Level II requires at least one year of experience as a Public Health Adviser, Assignment Level I, or one additional year of relevant experience.
