About the Role
Traffic Device Maintainers support the City’s Cycling and Micromobility Network Expansion Program by installing, maintaining, and repairing traffic control devices to improve safety and network connectivity across New York City.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair traffic control devices including traffic signs, stanchions, supports, and bus stop signage
- Maintain and repair pavement markings
- Operate, maintain, and adjust motor vehicles, pavement marking machines, air compressors, pavement breakers, and snowplows
- Perform manual labor including loading and unloading trucks and placing traffic devices
- Work from ladders, tower trucks, and bucket trucks
- Remove traffic encumbrances
- Ensure compliance with agency safety rules and regulations
- Properly use and wear safety equipment on work sites
Requirements
- Two years of full-time experience using hand or power tools to assemble, repair, maintain, or install mechanical or electrical devices
- High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of relevant experience
- Graduation from an approved four-year trade, technical, or vocational high school with a mechanical or electrical major
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with no restrictions valid in New York State or a Class B Learner’s Permit at time of appointment
- Must maintain a valid Class B CDL for the duration of employment
- Pass a drug screening and medical exam
- Subject to random drug testing
- Must reside in NYC for the first two years of employment
- Ability to work in all types of inclement weather
