About the Role

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is seeking to recruit two part-time psychologists to perform professional work in psychology, including clinical interviewing and assessment. Selected candidates will evaluate individuals' emotional and intellectual functioning, maintain clinical records, prepare reports, consult with stakeholders, and participate in staff conferences.

Responsibilities

• Evaluating individuals’ (Uniform Employees) emotional and intellectual functioning
• Maintaining clinical records and files in accordance with SOAP standards
• Preparing written reports of psychological findings for inclusion in clinical records and case files, etc.
• Consulting with psychiatrists, social workers, judges, and other relevant stakeholders regarding diagnoses, prognoses, and case disposition recommendations
• Participating in psychological and multidisciplinary staff conferences
• Preparing case documentation and written summaries
• Testifying in court or other administrative proceedings when required.

Requirements

• Completion of two years of graduate work (at least 60 graduate semester credits) in psychology from an accredited graduate program leading to a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology, forensic psychology, clinical health psychology or neuro-psychology, plus two years of satisfactory full-time experience in one of these areas under the supervision of a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist.
• A doctorate in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology, forensic psychology, clinical health psychology or neuro-psychology from an accredited college or university.
• Completion of a re-specialization in clinical psychology from an accredited graduate program plus one year of satisfactory full-time experience.
• Completion of the equivalent of three semester credits from an accredited graduate school in each of the following: personality testing, individual intelligence testing, psychopathology or abnormal psychology, and psychological and/or behavioral intervention.
• 240 hours of experience, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist, in each of the following: personality testing, individual intelligence testing, and psychological and/or behavioral intervention.
• Experience in psychological and/or behavioral intervention may be under the supervision of a licensed psychiatrist.
• Completion of an American Psychological Association (APA) approved doctoral program in professional psychology.
• Completion of an APA approved internship in professional psychology.
• A valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education (required for certain assignments and must be maintained for the duration of employment).
• For Assignment Level II: A doctoral degree in psychology as described above and one additional year of satisfactory full-time experience (either as a Psychologist for the City of New York or in a supervisory capacity).
• For Assignment Level III: A doctoral degree in psychology, a valid license as a Psychologist, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in psychology (at least one year under direct supervision and at least three years in a supervisory capacity as a licensed Psychologist).
