About the Role
The Guardian is seeking a Senior Android Developer to join the Apps Experience team. This role involves building, maintaining, and improving the award-winning Android app, taking a leadership role on projects, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment while contributing to both technical and product decisions.
Responsibilities
- Build and test major new features for Android applications
- Improve and maintain existing app functionality
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including iOS, server-side, and web engineers, designers, and product managers
- Engage in pair programming and collaborative development
- Provide leadership on team projects
- Mentor and guide other developers to support their professional growth
- Participate in product and technical decision-making
- Contribute to innovation through daily tasks and regular hack days
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in Android development
- Experience with JVM unit testing, instrumented testing, and UI regression testing
- Comfortable working with both cutting-edge technologies and legacy code
- Willingness to take on a leadership role in team projects
- Interest in understanding iOS development
- Strong interest in continuous skill development
