About the Role

The Guardian is seeking a Senior Android Developer to join the Apps Experience team. This role involves building, maintaining, and improving the award-winning Android app, taking a leadership role on projects, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment while contributing to both technical and product decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Build and test major new features for Android applications
  • Improve and maintain existing app functionality
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including iOS, server-side, and web engineers, designers, and product managers
  • Engage in pair programming and collaborative development
  • Provide leadership on team projects
  • Mentor and guide other developers to support their professional growth
  • Participate in product and technical decision-making
  • Contribute to innovation through daily tasks and regular hack days

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in Android development
  • Experience with JVM unit testing, instrumented testing, and UI regression testing
  • Comfortable working with both cutting-edge technologies and legacy code
  • Willingness to take on a leadership role in team projects
  • Interest in understanding iOS development
  • Strong interest in continuous skill development
