About the Role

The Exp Mgr, Expatriate Svcs is responsible for working with clients on international assignment structuring, presenting researched conclusions and recommendations, and identifying methods for complying with tax obligations. This role also involves marketing, networking, and business development within the Expatriate Services specialization.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts arrival and departure tax meetings for expatriates and inpatriates.
  • Manages retention of long-term client relationships.
  • Supervises client and service delivery expectations for global employees and individual engagements.
  • Participates in the management of client fee arrangements.
  • Reviews and signs U.S. individual income tax returns for inbound and outbound international assignees.
  • Examines and approves international assignment cost projection calculations, compensation balance sheets, assignment cost projections, assignment agreements, and equalizations.
  • Acts as primary client contact for communication and service management.
  • Communicates with clients and team members to conclude and sign tax returns.
  • Identifies potential tax issues and evaluates alternative actions to lessen tax burden and compliance cost.
  • Recognizes and communicates potential risks and changes in tax policy, applying new policies to tax compliance.
  • Conducts periodic client meetings.
  • Manages resource allocation, workflow, and utilization based on business needs.
  • Identifies when research is necessary, frames issues, identifies sources, analyzes facts, and reports findings.
  • Identifies issues and develops resolutions based on general knowledge, transferring them into multiple tax functional specialties.
  • Prepares correspondence on global human resource management and individual tax issues.
  • Partners with Expatriate Services professionals on assigned projects, business development proposals, practice development, and client service matters.
  • Assists in addressing routine questions from federal and state agencies.
  • Attends professional development and training sessions.
  • Participates in marketing, networking, and business development efforts within the industry and Expatriate Services specialization.
  • Attends networking events and cross-sells other BDO services.
  • Directs and supervises the workload of Expatriate Services Associates and Senior Associates.
  • Reviews work prepared by Expatriate Services Associates and Senior Associates and provides review comments.
  • Acts as a Career Advisor to Expatriate Services Associates and Senior Associates.
  • Provides verbal and written performance feedback to Expatriate Services Associates and Senior Associates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, International Business, Human Resource Management, International Human Resource Management or other related field required.
  • Six (6) or more years of related work experience required.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, PowerPoint and Word, preferred.
  • Prior experience working with various tax applications and research tools such as Go Systems, preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possesses superior customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain the highly confidential nature of information.
  • Capable of working and communicating effectively with professionals at all levels.
  • Able to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects/tasks with attention to detail.
  • Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environment.
  • Superior analytical and diagnostic skills, and the ability to apply analysis in determining appropriate next steps.
  • Excellent computer skills and the aptitude to learn new software applications.
  • Knowledge of combining tax knowledge with business/industry knowledge to recommend solutions.
  • Possesses superior personnel development and delegation skills, including training/facilitation.
  • Capable of effectively preparing and delivering presentations to clients and potential clients.
  • Solid client development and relationship retention skills.
  • Ability to compose written tax advice.
  • Demonstrates professional demeanor in all business interactions and relationships.
