About the Role

The 14Y After School Program serves K-5th grade students in the East Village, fostering a neurodiverse community. We are seeking After School Support Specialists to act as role models and provide dedicated support to children with social, emotional, behavioral, or mental health needs, including ASD, mood disorders, and sensory processing issues.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all staff orientation sessions and monthly meetings
  • Support assigned students in carrying out their success plans
  • Assist students requiring additional support during swim periods
  • Communicate regularly with the Support Coordinator and Program Manager regarding student progress and schedules
  • Collaborate with Group Leaders to support students
  • Adhere to agency and site-specific safety standards
  • Comply with city and departmental rules and policies
  • Maintain behavior management protocols using a restorative approach
  • Implement organizational values including growth, empathy, and community-mindedness
  • Ensure the physical and mental health and safety of all students
  • Participate in all enrichment classes and activities
  • Provide quality supervision during transitions, snacks, and activities
  • Assist with school pick-ups as needed
  • Act as a daily support system to encourage student success
  • Facilitate social dynamics and friendship building
  • Proactively engage students using strengths-based support strategies
  • Build rapport with families and provide daily updates during dismissal
  • Provide weekly progress updates to the Support Coordinator

Requirements

  • Availability for the full program duration from September 14, 2026, through June 4, 2027
  • Currently pursuing education in Social Work, Special Education, or related fields
  • Demonstrated interest and experience working with neurodivergent children or those with additional support needs
  • Patience and willingness to learn about disabilities and support strategies
  • Willingness to learn about and participate in Jewish culture and traditions
  • Previous experience working with children from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
